Play Therapy

About

Play

Play on its own is a language, integral to human development, a natural part of our being, and inspires learning—it is a pathway to innovation, emotional awareness, and self-efficacy. While play is typically associated with children, play and playfulness is used and expressed by people across all ages, races, genders, and cultures.

Play Therapy

Play therapy is an evidence-based practice that applies theoretical approaches to play within the context of a psychotherapeutic relationship to foster the well-being of an individual, family, or group. Hardship and emotional barriers can be processed and transformed into motivation and courage, outside the realm of traditional talk therapy.

Specifically, the U.S. Association for Play Therapy (APT) defines play therapy as “the systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained Play Therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development."

Registered Play Therapist

A registered play therapist (RPT) has met the stringent standards required by APT with extensive training, supervision, and continuing education in play therapy theory and practice. Inspired Therapy Studios, LLC harnesses strengths-based, child-centered, and Adlerian approaches with aspects of synergetic play therapy, to provide highly effective, uniquely tailored, caring service.

How does it work?

Tele-play therapy is an opportunity for children and adults to engage in mental health care and personal development conveniently from home. The content of each session varies greatly due to the individualized nature of psychotherapeutic care and processes. The “play therapy space” is created between the client and provider through relationship-building techniques, spontaneous creativity, and trust.

Any toys used during spontaneous play, process-oriented play, or in structured play therapy interventions are those of the client and not provided by the psychotherapist. Advantages to this are that personally preferred and sentimental toys are readily available to the client in session, which can often enrich the therapeutic experience, offer a sense of mastery, and sometimes reveal areas for growth and development.

At Inspired Therapy Studios, LLC, personal journeys are handled with great care and professionalism—all of your unique psychotherapeutic needs and goals are considered throughout the course of therapy.
